Giù il cappello propone musiche originali di propria composizione riconducibili al genere folk, brani tradizionali di varia provenienza (dal nord al sud Italia e dell'est europa), riproposti con nuovi arrangiamenti che richiamano altri generi (rock, blues e jazz), e alcune cover di cantautori o gruppi che hanno prestato particolare attenzione a questo tipo di contaminazioni.
filo conduttore di tutte le musiche proposte è la dimensione popolare, giocosa e divertente e il coinvolgimento del pubblico chiamato a ballare e a partecipare attivamente.
Giù il cappello è un gruppo versatile che può esibirsi su palco o in strada in formazione acustica, stabile o itinerante.
il gruppo è nato nel 1999 dall'unione di musicisti provenienti da diverse esperienze musicali. tali esperienze hanno arricchito e influenzato gli arrangiamenti, in cui spicca una singolare carica ritmica. giù il cappello si rivolge quindi ad ogni età e riesce a coinvolgere anche un pubblico solitamente estraneo alla musica popolare. gli strumenti utilizzati sono infatti sia "moderni" (basso elettrico, batteria, kazoo…), sia tradizionali (fisarmonica, chitarra battente, percussioni…).
nel luglio 2003 è uscito voli di ditteri, primo cd di Giù il cappello, prodotto dalla casa discografica ethnoworld di milano, distribuito in italia e all'estero.
Born in 1999, "Giù il cappello" is an italian band that proposes original compositions shaped into different folk sounds from all over Italy and Eastern Europe, with arrangements ranging from ethnic music to rock, blues and jazz.
The band has a very strong live act that can be proposed in big festivals, theatres and even in the streets; Giù il cappello has toured Greece and Turkey and is willing to meet new countries and new cultures. After more than 200 performances, GIU' IL CAPPELLO have brought to the forefront their musical views: arrangements of traditional excerpts, both yiddish and Italian - regional, in modern terms, and their own songs, that can be defined as folk-rock ones.
According to a common opinion, then, we shouldn’t leave out some details as the cheerfulness and the energy that the band is able to convey during their performances.
They have been taking part in many folk-festivals, in important various associations’ events and street artists’ festivals, where they’ve found their own role, thanks to their versatility and passion for the so-called “street art”.
Their first cd is called "Voli di ditteri" and is produced and distributed by Ethnoworld Label.
